Company History

My name is Curt Gutierrez and I founded Camelback Displays Inc. in 1999 to supply quality products that are affordable for exhibitors to use at trade shows and special events.

The Beginning

Prior to starting our company, I worked in sales, marketing, advertising, photography and small business with a focus on business to business relationships. During my last job outside of Camelback, I witnessed the birth of the dot-com craze and the rise and fall of many online companies. I had a few friends in online marketing that inspired me to start and grow my own company. There were two online companies in particular who stood out for me. One was an online luxury watch supplier, who modeled themselves after Amazon. They quickly grew very large by raising staggering amounts of cash and soon after, took their company public with ultimate goal of making all the principals millionaires. Unfortunately, this occurred during the height of the dot-com bubble and we all know what happened next. The other company was also an online entity who specialized in watches for the masses. They sold a huge amount of timepieces from all the major brands. They were a smaller, scrappier organization and had the goal of building a long term business through customer service, quality and products that could ship right away. They were well run, grew in a manageable way and looked more and more prosperous every time I visited their offices. I learned from both companies the importance of choosing the right business path and that goals shouldn’t be money centered, but should be all about the customer and doing a great job. We are thankful for our clients who have helped us grow at a substantial but steady rate over the years. They keep us driven to develop new products offer and have helped to keep us on the right business path.

Another source of inspiration for our particular business model came from my late father, who was an executive at a major oil company. In the 1970’s he was in charge of starting a company-wide quality improvement program. We had numerous conversations about “doing it right the first time”; “meeting and exceeding expectations”; “prevention”; and numerous other ideas and concepts from the quality movement. He loved the idea of continuous improvement and shared with me stories from his efforts to build quality processes that touched all aspects of a major corporation. Quality was in his blood and our company, Camelback Displays, incorporates most of these concepts into our operations model. We have set up numerous techniques with our suppliers, employees and clients that prevent problems before they occur and insure that a quality product is delivered on time and is exactly what our clients are expecting. We train everyone at Camelback to go the extra mile to ensure a great experience with our company. We double and triple check each order and make sure everything is perfect before it ships. We have helped a large number of clients at the last minute, which through no fault of their own either had a bad experience with another display company or had their displays lost in transit. We always seem to come up with a solution to a problem because effectively taking care of our clients is a part of what we are committed to do.

Growth

My wife and partner, Chris came on board soon after I started the company because of our fast growth. We were extremely lucky to benefit from her extensive business and management experience. Chris worked in banking at one of the largest banks in the world as an officer and helped run a large department in PC Banking. She also had a successful real estate career and has used her management and customer service experience to grow Camelback Displays in an organized and professional way. Without her particular skill set, we would not have had the growth we’ve experienced every year since our start in 1999 (even during all the recessions since the early 2000’s).

In the beginning months of Camelback Displays’ history, it was just the two of us taking care of a growing number of customers, developing new products, building the website, marketing and everything else it takes to launch a company. We worked a lot of late nights and weekends with a commitment to not only stay caught up, but to keep improving. As we brought in more and more staff, our sales kept growing. Each new employee was thoroughly trained in how we operate and help our clients. We are definitely happy to have the people who make our company work so effectively and I am very proud of the job each one of them does. They make up a diverse group of creative problem solvers who are dedicated to their clients.

Customer Satisfaction

Camelback lives and breathes displays of all types. Our committed staff of professionals enjoys helping our clients, the industries we work in and what we do. They work hard (and smart) every day, making sure that everything is right with any projects they are involved with from conception to delivery and beyond. Our team is good at what they do and there is no other company out there that can match our quality of work. We carry that attitude from large assignments to small orders because we value every client that comes our way.

Camelback Displays continues to improve to this day, by scouring the globe looking for unique, interesting and quality products that our clients can use at trade shows, in retail environments, at special events and huge variety of other needs. We have helped all types of companies, organizations, churches, schools, universities, government agencies, branches of the military, states, countries, charities and famous individuals. This amounts to tens of thousands of clients and a large percent of them keep coming back year after year.
